Visionaries to Host Renowned Fashion Designer Maggie Norris

The Bahrain-based developmental youth NGO, Visionaries, prepares to host renowned American fashion designer, Maggie Norris, who will be taking part in “Success Stories” by Visionaries in June.

This announcement comes not long after Visionaries announced the launch of its signature program after the success of its first edition, which took place in June of last year. Hosting three international public figures in a youth engagement effort, “Success Stories” by Visionaries aims to inspire local youth and empower young talents by providing inspiring global examples of career success. Norris is one of three prominent personalities taking part in “Success Stories” this year, along with international architect Carlos Zapata.

Norris moved to New York City from her home state of Louisiana to attend Parsons School of Design and the Arts Students League. After her graduation, she was recruited by Ralph Lauren as a creative designer and quickly ascended the corporate level to become senior design director. In 2000, she founded her self-titled brand, Maggie Norris Couture.

A member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Maggie Norris has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, W, Elle and The New York Times. Her designs have been worn by various celebrities and socialites such as Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Obama, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston and Alicia Keys. Norris has also participated in countless fashion events and exhibitions, as well as hosting and organizing fashion shows in New York City.

‘We are very proud to be hosting such a prominent personality in the fashion world,’ commented Shaikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Visionaries CEO. ‘We are very excited to have Ms. Norris in Bahrain and we look forward to hearing her story during Success Stories.’

Since the establishment of Visionaries in 2013, its team has organized multiple programs, events and activities as well as international participations that aim to promote the role of local youth in society and Bahrain’s economic development. Most recently, the youth NGO established iCitizen, a convention organized at the Bahrain International Circuit that took place in January and featured more than 50 young Bahraini entrepreneurs, talented youth and volunteer groups, in addition to the Global Youth Service Day program.

“The Spring Ball is The Society’s most magnificent event of the year, and more than 400 guests are expected to attend this glittering evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing. The 8th Annual Spring Ball is Co-Chaired by Judy Gordon Cox, Kamie Lightburn, and Elizabeth Gosnell Miller, and is generously sponsored by Michael Kors. The Spring Ball initiative will raise funds for The Society Research Grants Program, which provides funding for early stage research by Memorial Sloan Kettering’s post-doctoral, pre-tenure researchers at the start of their careers at MSK. Over the past eight years alone, The Society has funded 54 grants by MSK investigators whose research has led to breakthroughs in cancer prevention, detection and treatment that have been recognized by the world’s leading scientific and medical journals.”

MAGGIE NORRIS TOURS BAHRAIN FOR VISIONARIES’ EVENT
By Rosemary Feitelberg

NEXT STOP BAHRAIN: Like many designers, Maggie Norris logs her share of air miles and this week called for one of her longer journeys — a trip to Bahrain for Visionaries’ “Success Stories.”
Held on June 1, the NGO-backed event is geared toward promoting the role of youth in society and Bahrain’s economic development.
Reached by phone in the small island country near the western shores of the Persian Gulf Tuesday, Norris said the youth-powered crowd had plenty of questions for her and her fellow speakers — architect Carlos Zapata and artist Benjamin Shine. There was a lot of conversation about their respective early days, and the intersection of art, fashion and design. “They wanted to know how to get started and what my idea of success is. They were so happy and so enthralled,” Norris said. “It was such an interesting mix of people. And they understand that in this age of Facebook and Instagram, we can all change the world in or own small way.”
A Louisiana native, Norris first came to New York to attend The New School’s Parsons School of Design and the Arts Students League. After picking up her diploma, she worked at Ralph Lauren rising in the ranks to senior design director. In 2000, Norris went out on her own, launching her Maggie Norris Couture label.
Having met the Queen of Bahrain and toured some of Bahrain’s centuries-old architecture, Norris planned to spend the rest of the week learning more about the country and exploring historic sites before returning to New York. “It is always better to go to a place than to think about what it’s like,” she said.

President and CEO of Bideawee Nancy Taylor, Delia von Neuschatz,Tom Murro,Prince Lorenzo Borghese, Dolly, Bucky La Fontaine, and Maggie Norris attending the 2015 Bideawee Ball.

Bideawee, the leading pet welfare and adoption organization serving metropolitan New York, will hold its 2015 Bideawee Ball on Monday, June 15th in Manhattan at The Pierre Hotel with a Parisian style theme. The event will honor outstanding individuals that exemplify the highest standard for promoting animal welfare.

Honorees at this year’s Annual Ball include Todd Richter, Senior Managing Director, Global Healthcare Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Bideawee’s Trust and Estates attorney Elisabeth McCarthy for their philanthropic efforts and superior corporate support of animal welfare and well-being. A graduate of The College of William and Mary and Indiana University Kelley School of Business, Todd Richter has been an investment banker to the healthcare services field for over 30 years. An important part of his responsibility has been leading Bank of America Merrill Lynch coverage of the global animal
health sector. It was this professional and personal passion that first brought Todd to Bideawee 6 years ago. Since then, he’s adopted his beloved dog Henry from Bideawee, hosted cocktail receptions to increase awareness, and set up an endowment to ensure the future of the organization. Mr. Richter has been one of our most generous donors to-date.

Elisabeth McCarthy, Esq., Bideawee’s Trusts and Estates attorney for almost three decades, received her undergraduate, cum laude, from Fordham University and graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1984.

A trusts and estates practitioner with specialized expertise in not-for-profit law and related tax matters, McCarthy has brought tens of millions of dollars to Bideawee as a tenacious, ethical and passionate advocate in hundreds of court cases and estate affairs. On a personal level, Ms. McCarthy is a long-time supporter, Bideawee Ball donor and attendee. She has even become a recent adopter of Nino, a tiny Yorkie that came to Bideawee at 2 days old with his two siblings.
Bideawee’s Annual Ball attracts more than 350 celebrities, philanthropists, business and community leaders, and lover of dogs and cats each year. The evening is a celebratory event that generates
renewed excitement and commitment to the Bideawee mission along with honoring those that go above and beyond in helping to save the lives of dogs and cats throughout the New York area.

About Bideawee:
Bideawee, which means “stay a while,” in Scottish, is among the nation’s oldest animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. Founded in 1903 by Mrs. Flora Kibbe, Bideawee has been providing shelter, care
and compassion to homeless animals helping them to find their forever home for the past 111 years. With facilities in New York City and two on Long Island, one in Wantagh, and one in Westhampton, the organization currently has more than 700 volunteers and 96 employees.
Through a vast array of traditional and innovative programs and services Bideawee accompanies pets and pet lovers throughout their entire journey through life together. From return rates on adopted animals that are well below the industry norms, an Animal Hospital that has helped more than 75,000 animals in the past 10 years, learning programs and pet therapy, to the treasured Pet Memorial Parks and pet loss support groups, Bideawee cultivates and supports the life-long relationship between pets and the people who love them.
